Offenbach is currently adding a total of 19 new car sharing stations in public spaces. The difference: previously, the parking spaces were located in private areas in backyards or parking garages. The car sharing selection is thus growing by 30 vehicles in the entire city area and will in future comprise a total of 31 parking spaces with a total of 56 vehicles. Depending on local conditions, each station-based car sharing vehicle replaces four to sometimes more than ten vehicles, as users often get rid of their own car or second car, according to the Federal Environment Agency (opens in a new tab).
Offenbach residents can already use all of the new stations operated by the provider book-n-drive. At stadtmobil Rhein-Main, the installation of the parking spaces has begun and will be completed in the course of September. The new parking spaces may only be used by the two providers book-n-drive and Stadtmobil Rhein-Main as part of a special use. They can be recognized by a sign of the respective provider. In addition, the words "Carsharing" have been affixed to the parking spaces. Third-party parkers are usually towed away immediately.
Sabine Groß, Head of MobilityWe are delighted that we have been able to win two providers for this expansion of Offenbach's mobility offering. Their presence in public spaces will certainly give car sharing in the city a further boost.
How it works
To use the car sharing service, a one-time registration with the respective company is required. After validation of the user data, customers receive their access data in order to both reserve and open vehicles. Journeys are charged according to a combined time and mileage rate, which already includes the costs for fuel, tax and insurance. The providers offer different rates depending on usage behavior. The service that has now been launched is station-based car sharing, which means that the vehicle is returned and parked where it was collected.
