All public parking garages and underground garages around the pedestrian zone are networked with each other in the parking guidance system. In this way, the facilities close to the city center, which form the backbone of stationary traffic in the city center, can be accessed quickly and free capacities are displayed. On the main access roads to the city center - Berliner Straße (from the east and west), Bismarckstraße, Waldstraße, Kaiserstraße and Schloßstraße - drivers can see the current free capacities of the multi-storey and underground parking lots on a total of nine dynamic displays. Drivers thus have a decision-making aid for their choice of parking space. The system is supplemented by nine further signs without remaining spaces.
Anyone driving into the city via Berliner Straße will also receive real-time information about major detour or events in the city area via a two-line city information module.
The city of Offenbach awarded the contract for the construction of the parking guidance system to Siemens AG in June 2012. The signs were installed and connected in October and November 2012. A total of around 310,000 euros was invested in the project, with the state of Hesse contributing around 215,000 euros. A small fly in the ointment: as not all parking garage operators are yet participating in the system, some of the individual dynamic displays are covered in order to avoid confusing road users.
