Frankfurter Strasse
With a protective lane for cyclists, the city is increasing safety on the busy Frankfurter Straße and closing another gap in Offenbach's cycling network. You can find up-to-date information on the measure here.
The protective strip
Until now, the combination of old streetcar tracks, cobblestones and vehicles parked alongside has repeatedly led to dangerous situations for cyclists on Frankfurter Straße. The continuous hard shoulder runs between Ludwigsstraße and Dreieichring/August-Bebel-Ring. It has a standard width of 1.80 meters, but is narrower in some narrow places. This compromise allows as many parking spaces as possible to be retained on Frankfurter Straße. The road marking work took place in mid-September 2024. In addition to the new markings, the road was also provided with new signage. The new cycle lanes were inaugurated with a roll-in celebration.
Parking facilities
The space for the hard shoulder was only provided by the road surface on which longitudinal parking for motor vehicles was previously permitted in sections. The parking rules have changed in the side streets, as around 64 parking spaces have been removed on Frankfurter Strasse. Employees and customers of the businesses are permitted to park in a designated area with a parking permit for up to 10 hours during the day. In the evening, these parking spaces are once again exclusively available to residents. However, residents can still park during the day with their resident parking permit.
A total of 37 parking spaces are available for employees and customers of commercial enterprises, depending on the size of the vehicle, 4 of which are so-called short-term parking spaces for 2 hours.
