Engelthal Monastery near Altenstadt - a young monastery in a historic location. This is how the Benedictine nuns themselves describe their community near Altenstadt in the Wetterau region. The sisters have been living and working in this convent, which was founded by Cistercian nuns in the 13th century, since 1962. After it was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War, the order rebuilt it in the late Baroque style - but had to abandon it in 1803 in the course of secularization.
Ilbenstadt is part of a chain of historic settlements that follow the Nidda valley on a ridge. The Premonstratensian monastery is the oldest clerical settlement in the Wetterau region and one of the oldest and most important Romanesque churches in Hesse. The restored basilica is still an impressive church today and is popularly known as the "Wetterau Cathedral".
History of Konradsdorf Monastery: Konrad, a feudal lord of the Benedictine Abbey of Fulda, founded a manor west of the Ortenberg district of Selters on a hill above the Nidder in the 8th century. This was converted into a small castle complex around 1000 and, like numerous other castles at the end of the 12th century, was converted into a monastery. The monastery church and provost building are among the most beautiful Romanesque buildings in Hesse.

The eighth largest city in Hesse has around 72,000 inhabitants and a rich history dating back to around 50,000 years ago. However, it only gained its true significance when Landgravine Elisabeth of Thuringia chose Marburg as her widow's seat in 1228. Despite her tragic death at the tender age of 24 in 1231, she is still regarded today as one of the most important personalities to have shaped Marburg. Later, the German writer, illustrator, composer and icon of German Romanticism, Bettina von Arnim, also lived in Marburg for some time. Born Elisabeth of Thuringia in Frankfurt am Main in 1785, she became famous for her correspondence with Goethe. After the death of her father, the then 12-year-old moved to Offenbach am Main and later spent some time with her sister in Marburg. Marburg was also the adopted home of the Brothers Grimm, who studied law at the local university at the beginning of the 19th century. Finally, Emil von Behring received the first Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1901 as Professor of Hygiene and Bacteriology at the University of Marburg.

The tour takes guests via St. Elisabeth's Church, which was built in 1235 and was instrumental in the further development of Gothic architecture in Germany, to St. Michael's Chapel directly opposite. On the market square, which according to tradition was the site of the founding of the state of Hesse in 1248, you will find one of Marburg's landmarks: the stone-built Marburg Town Hall, which combines Gothic and Renaissance styles. Finally, explore the charming half-timbered houses of the Old Town, most of which were built between the 14th century and 1866. More than 700 historic buildings have been carefully renovated, restored or rebuilt true to the original in recent years, so that today they once again shine in their original splendor.

Wetzlar lies on the River Lahn just above the confluence with the River Dill. The town extends at an altitude of 148-402 meters on mostly hilly terrain up to the hills on both sides of the Lahn valley.
