Insider tips whet the appetite for Offenbach
The new citizens' brochure has been available since 2006 for all those who start their life in Offenbach by registering at the Citizens' Office. It summarizes the most important addresses in the administration and the city group, clearly arranged by topic. But of course Offenbach is much more than a sober guide can portray. The recently published booklet "Inside Offenbach" now complements the service brochure and will also be part of the new citizen package in future.
The two authors Uwe Kauss and Susanne Reininger are Offenbach insiders and have found that the city always has surprises in store, even for those in the know. For all those who want to get to know Offenbach for the first time or get to know it better, they show a city with many facets, in which much is only revealed at second glance.
"Anyone who is new to Offenbach should not only find their way around here, but feel at home," says Lord Mayor Horst Schneider. The book should not only arouse the curiosity of those who have just arrived in Offenbach, but also those who have lived here for many years: "The city always offers something new, unusual and amazing. Great culture and gems, tradition and avant-garde, peaceful nature and rough-and-tumble city life."
Did you know, for example, that Eis-Winter in Humboldtstraße embeds the engagement ring for your loved one in an ice cube? Or do you know Monika Seidl, who tailors costumes for theater and television in her studio in Nordend? Offenbach is a creative place.
The two freelance journalists open up a variety of approaches to life in Offenbach. Their tips should make it easier for new residents to get started. And locals can also benefit from the insider tips: Uwe Kauss and Susanne Reininger, known as collectors of the best recipes from the weekly market, present Offenbach's museum landscape in lively texts, they show where you can relax, which excursion destinations are worthwhile in the area, where there are culinary specialties to discover or where you can do some original shopping in or away from the pedestrian zone. Twelve chapters also provide an overview of the wide range of sports on offer, the lively cultural scene and the activities of the numerous clubs and associations. Night owls can find out where to meet up late at night and which major events in Offenbach's festival calendar are not to be missed. Useful information is summarized at the end of each chapter.
Charming and knowledgeable, the authors whet your appetite for Offenbach: after reading the book, you'll want to go straight to the espresso bar in Frankfurter Straße, where, with a bit of luck, you might bump into the owner and his band playing music. Or you might want to hop on your bike and cycle along the Main to Schultheis-Weiher, where you might even catch sight of a cormorant at a quiet hour.
The 52-page brochure was designed by Würzburg graphic designer Andrea Wieczorek-Nellen. Offenbach photographer Katja Lenz has captured the atmosphere of the city in atmospheric photos. The publisher is the Office for Public Relations.
