Minotaur in Dreieichpark

According to legend, the Minotaur lived in a labyrinthine prison on Crete. Every nine years, seven young boys and seven virgins were sacrificed until Theseus killed the monster with the help of Ariadne. With a closed fist and pointed horns, the Greek legendary figure in glittering armor has been looking out onto Frankfurter Straße in Dreieichpark since 2008.

The two and a half meter high stainless steel sculpture was created by Bernd Rosenheim, who also designed the flame in front of the town hall. "Rosenheim interprets the "Minotaur" less as a man-eating monster than as a silent observer of people. The uncanny aspect of such hybrid creatures is in no small part due to the realization that, living in the thoughtless world of the animal, they are able to look into the depths and abysses of human existence." see the artist's website:
