Heat Hotline for Older Adults
Rising temperatures and the increasing frequency of heat waves pose a significant health risk, particularly for older adults and socially isolated individuals. Circulatory problems, dehydration, or other heat-related ailments can quickly become life-threatening. Preventive measures and access to reliable information are therefore essential to protect the health and well-being of the older generation.
The goal of Offenbach’s “Heat Hotline” is to provide targeted information and practical support during periods of high temperatures and heat waves in order to minimize the risks of heat-related stress for seniors. The project is a collaboration between the Office for Environment and Climate, the Department for Senior Citizens at the Social Services Office, and the Senior Citizens’ Council of the City of Offenbach.
Older adults can register for the Heat Hotline by calling 069-8065 2557 ( the Office for Environment and Climate) or by umweltamtoffenbachde. A registration form and a privacy policy are used for registration. These documents can be sent to you by mail or email upon request. Alternatively, they are also available for download. Once the signed forms have been returned to the Office for Environment and Climate, you will be added to a list and then contacted by phone when the German Weather Service issues heat warnings.
The Offenbach Senior Citizens’ Council has agreed to handle these calls. The members of the Senior Citizens’ Council are highly trained and well-prepared for this valuable work. They provide information, offer easy-to-follow tips for heat prevention—such as drinking plenty of fluids, seeking out cool places, or adjusting clothing—and, if necessary, refer you to additional support services or contacts.
