City of Offenbach

Map of Cool Places

If your home no longer offers any relief from the heat—for example, if you live in an attic apartment—it may be a good idea to visit a public place where temperatures are likely to be lower. On very hot days, even a few degrees cooler—such as in a park with mature trees—can make a significant difference to your well-being.

Illustrative depiction of cool places

So where can I go when temperatures rise above 30 degrees? Where can I spend my lunch break? The map of cool spots shows places in the city that can provide relief from the heat or shade, such as drinking fountains, water features, churches, green spaces, and public buildings. Not all of these are air-conditioned, but they can still protect you from direct sunlight or serve as a better alternative to your own overheated attic apartment. Starting at Heat Warning Level 2 from the German Weather Service—when the heat index exceeds 38°C in the early afternoon—even the listed locations without air conditioning may become uncomfortably hot. Air-conditioned buildings are shown on the map with a blue outline.

Refill stations and public restrooms throughout the city are also marked. Stores with the "Refill" sticker offer free tap water for any reusable drinking container you bring with you. The goal is to actively help reduce plastic waste and ensure easy access to drinking water while on the go.

Heat Alert Level 2

In the event of extreme heat or a Level 2 heat warning, the following buildings will be opened and remain accessible until at least 8:00 p.m.:

  • Gymnasium of the Vocational-Technical School, Schöne Aussicht 1
  • GBM Common Room, Odenwaldring 44
  • Else-Herrmann Hall, Goerdelerstraße 1

Note: This will be announced in advance through the press and via posters on-site.
