The city's professional fire department is setting a good example in the professional advancement of women. In 2024, three women will start training to become fire chiefs and senior fire inspectors . The candidates received their certificates on Friday, December 15, 2023.
It is a very good sign that more and more women are applying to the professional fire department and consciously choosing the city of Offenbach as an employer. Our extensive efforts to get more women into the fire department are therefore paying off," says Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke. "With our 'Women on Fire' program, interested women have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of the fire department, get to know the training content, but also take part in a sports or craft workshop. These low-threshold offers are important in order to attract women to training and, of course, we need role models. This is another reason why we are delighted to welcome three new female colleagues," adds Janina Boerckel, Women's and Equal Opportunities Officer.
The application phase for the next start of training is currently underway. "We look forward to being able to invite female applicants to a comprehensive entry program again next year," says the acting head of the professional fire department Dr. Michael Eiblmaier.
Digital insights on January 16, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m.
On January 16, 2024, the professional fire department digitally welcomes all women who would like to find out about their training opportunities and get their first taste of the fire department in an interactive format.
Between 5 and 7 p.m., there will be a digital tour of the fire station and an insight into the diverse areas of responsibility. The training process and selection procedure will also be presented, and there will be an open Q&A session and breakout sessions. The event is a great opportunity to exchange ideas with potential future colleagues and gain an exclusive insight behind the scenes of the Offenbach fire department.
Women on Fire
In February and March, there will also be two workshops to prepare for the recruitment test. At the crafts workshop in a wood workshop in Offenbach, applicants can brush up on their manual skills under the professional guidance of a carpenter. The sports workshop offers interested women a good opportunity to train for the professional fire department recruitment test and find out more about the requirements.
The 200-strong fire department team is looking forward to welcoming new faces who want to help shape the fire department on its way into the future and who appreciate a particularly informal atmosphere. All women who are interested in starting an apprenticeship in April 2025 and still have question marks in their heads are cordially invited to the digital entry event "Women on fire". You should not be over the age of 34 when you start your apprenticeship.
