Between work and holidays: Lord Mayor thanks employees of the Offenbach fire department

While many citizens are getting Christmas trees and presents, operations at the Offenbach fire station continue as normal. This is because Advent wreaths, unattended candles and overloaded fairy lights pose an increased risk, especially during the Christmas season. This is why the firefighters are on heightened operational readiness even during the holidays. Two weeks before Christmas, Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke paid a traditional visit to the Offenbach fire department to thank them for their efforts.

The Lord Mayor addressed the employees of fire brigade 2 with words of appreciation: "You literally go into and through the fire to save lives. In addition, there are many other operational situations in which they are on duty for Offenbach's citizens. Through their reliability, high level of commitment and the personal risk that all emergency services take day and night, they ensure that the people of Offenbach can feel safe."

Accompanied by small gifts, the Lord Mayor showed his appreciation for the indispensable work of the emergency services, who not only protect the population at Christmas, but all year round. "My annual visits to the fire station are very close to my heart." For the Lord Mayor, this visit is a cherished tradition; it is his 14th Christmas visit to the fire station, and he already made a stop there as a city councillor to express his gratitude for the outstanding work of the Offenbach fire department. "Maintaining this tradition is important to me in order to make the work of the Offenbach fire department visible. They are on duty day and night. They do an outstanding job under often challenging conditions," said Mayor Schwenke. "It is also thanks to the highly qualified staff at the control center that emergency calls can be assessed quickly, the right measures can be initiated and the emergency services can be coordinated efficiently." After a joint lunch, the mayor also took a look at the break room with the fire department's Christmas tree, which is decorated differently every year.

As the head of the fire department, Dr. Michael Eiblmaier, was unable to attend on business, Manuel Neumann-Gamperling, head of the emergency services department, thanked the employees for their tireless efforts and expressed his appreciation for the mayor's appreciation: "A large part of the fire department's work remains invisible to the public. The emergency services are only noticed when there is acute danger. This makes it all the more important to regularly recognize the continuous performance of our colleagues."
