Two injured in major roof truss fire

On the morning of 21.08.2012, two roof trusses burned down in Waldstraße in Offenbach. Two people suffered smoke inhalation as a result of the fire and had to be transported to hospital by the emergency services.

At 4.11 a.m., a large number of callers reported a roof truss fire to the Offenbach fire department at Waldstraße 107. When the fire department arrived, the fire had already spread to the roof truss of the neighboring building at Waldstraße 109.

According to the Offenbach fire department, everyone who was in the two buildings at the time of the fire was able to leave the danger zone.

The residents are saved

More than 40 residents were evacuated from the affected houses and housed in the sports hall of a nearby school. Two people suffered smoke inhalation as a result of the fire and had to be transported to hospital by the emergency services. The fire was fought by a total of three fire engines from the Offenbach and Frankfurt professional fire departments and the Offenbach volunteer fire department. The fire in the roof trusses was contained by 5 o'clock. However, the post-extinguishing work proved to be lengthy. In addition, the water and electricity in the buildings had to be turned off and checked. In Waldstrasse 109, the fire also caused water damage.
According to initial findings, the roof truss is in danger of collapsing and the affected apartment is uninhabitable. The building inspectorate has also been informed. Waldstraße was fully closed for several hours during the extinguishing work.
