Parallel operations due to smoke alarms
11.09.2021 – Almost simultaneously at around 4:20 p.m., the control center of the Offenbach professional fire department received two fire alarms. In each case, smoke alarms were triggered and they were called to supposed fires.
In Rumpenheimer Straße in Bürgel, very close to the scene of last night's fire, a small fire broke out in a kitchen on the electric stove. This set off the smoke alarm and prompted the neighbors to call the fire department, especially as smoke could already be seen at the window. The fire department arrived and found that the fire could be extinguished by the person who had caused it and that the fire department no longer needed to intervene. There were no casualties.
Residents in Richard-Wagner Straße were also alerted by the triggering of a smoke alarm and informed the fire department, as the exact location could not initially be determined. As the fire engine of the Bürgel fire department was on duty, the entire volunteer fire department was alerted to send firefighters to the scene. They then discovered on site that a defective smoke alarm had been triggered in an apartment. Again, the emergency services did not have to intervene.
Smoke alarms save lives and detect fires at an early stage. Technical faults can be avoided if the detectors are checked regularly.
End of operation: 17:30
Cause: Incipient fire / technical fault
Personal injury: none
