Kitchen fire in Ludwigstraße and other operations

06.05.2022 – The tenant of an apartment in Ludwigstraße had to be taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation.

She had inhaled too much smoke because a mobile hotplate had caught fire in her apartment, resulting in considerable amounts of smoke. She was able to rescue herself from the apartment and was immediately treated by the emergency services. As the fire had fortunately not yet spread to the kitchen equipment, the fire department was able to extinguish the fire with a small extinguisher. Due to the heavy smoke pollution, the apartment had to be ventilated intensively afterwards.

All in all, the day had a turbulent phase for the emergency services of the professional fire department between 10:40 am and 3:12 pm. During this time, the firefighters were called out to the following incidents:

10:40 a.m.: A "helpless person" was reported in an apartment in Schillstraße. As the person was unable to open the door themselves, the fire department gained access to the apartment via a tilted window and was able to open the door from the inside. The person could then be handed over to the emergency services, who rushed to the scene and took care of everything else.

11:05 a.m.: In Gaußstraße, a raccoon had become wedged in a chimney and could no longer free itself under its own power. The fire department's turntable ladder was used to help the animal out of its predicament. Meanwhile, the raccoon was suddenly able to free itself.

11:49 a.m.: A fire alarm in the hospital had gone off. The fire brigade that arrived at the scene discovered that the blocked toaster in a kitchenette had burnt a piece of toast. The resulting smoke triggered the automatic fire alarm as intended. No further damage was caused, so it was sufficient to ventilate the area.

12:15 p.m.: Fire alarm in Ludwigstraße as described above.

13:22: The warning sound of a private smoke alarm was heard by residents in the street "Schöne Aussicht", which is why they alerted the fire department. The fire department's fire engine was able to gain access to the apartment via the turntable ladder. It was found that no one was present in the apartment and that the smoke alarm had merely malfunctioned.

3:12 p.m.: A burning vehicle was reported on the A661 freeway in the direction of Egelsbach. The fire brigade moved out there and discovered that it was an engine bursting on a car. Fluids such as water and oil were spraying onto the hot engine and briefly produced a heavy cloud of smoke. Fortunately, the vehicle did not catch fire, which is why the fire department only had to deal with the containment of the fuels.
