Basement fire - several people still in the building
15.01.2024 – At 18:41, several residents called 112 to report a fire in the basement of a multi-storey residential and commercial building in Berliner Straße. The fire smoke spreading in the stairwell had cut off the residents' escape route.
After the arrival of the professional fire department's fire-fighting unit, the reported situation was confirmed. Several people were making themselves known at the windows and balconies of the building. Several teams wearing self-contained breathing apparatus were immediately sent into the building to rescue people and fight the fire. At the same time, the turntable ladder was positioned to reach the residents from outside. Due to the situation, the incident commander called for additional fire and rescue services.
The fire in the basement was quickly extinguished. After the fire department had taken the residents outside, three of them had to be treated by the emergency services. An ambulance transported one of them to a nearby hospital. The remaining residents stayed on site and were cared for by the emergency services in a bus provided by Offenbach's public transport company, which, among other things, kept them warm in the low temperatures.
As a result of the extensive basement complex, extensive ventilation measures were carried out in the affected areas. Once these had been completed, the residents were able to return to their homes.
The professional fire department was supported by all three volunteer fire departments from the Offenbach city area, among others.
