Fire on balcony with human lives in danger

17.09.2024 – On 16.09.2024 at 13:27, several emergency calls were received by the Offenbach control center about "a burning balcony" in Gustav-Adolf-Straße.

According to the callers, the fire was already threatening to enter the apartment and spread to the next floor up. The callers also reported loudly audible cries for help from one of the affected residential units.

On the way to the scene, the emergency services could already see a large column of smoke from afar in the Offenbach city center area.

On arrival at the scene, the emergency services were able to extinguish the fire quickly - it was a balcony at the rear of the building and the initial extinguishing measures could therefore be taken quickly. The fire was also extinguished using the fire department's turntable ladder. Another team wearing heavy breathing protection checked the apartment on fire and the floors above, where fortunately the flames did not spread.

The occupant had tried to extinguish the fire herself. She suffered smoke inhalation and had to be treated by the emergency services.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and the police are investigating.
