Burning warehouse at the Offenbach public utility company

21.09.2024 – A fire broke out at ESO Stadtservice GmbH at around 06:10 on 21.09.2024. In the warehouse there, household waste and waste paper caught fire over an area of approx. 50 x 30 meters. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries during the operation.

The cloud of smoke was clearly visible from a distance and was moving in a south-westerly direction. The measurement results for possible pollutants were negative in the urban area, but an odor nuisance was perceptible.

The warning to the population was repeated during the morning due to the unpleasant odors, with the request to keep doors and windows closed in these areas.

The firefighting operation was divided into three sections and the water supply had to be secured. The focus was on preventing the fire from spreading.

At 10.30 a.m. it was possible to report "fire under control".

The burning piles of garbage then had to be pulled apart with heavy equipment to extinguish any embers. At 14.49 "Fire out, extinguishing work" was reported.

The operation caused traffic obstructions on Bieberer Straße and a full closure of Daimlerstraße.

In addition to the professional fire department and the three volunteer fire departments from the city of Offenbach, firefighters from the Offenbach and Frankfurt districts supported the firefighting efforts.

Approximately 120 firefighters were deployed.

Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke inquired on site about the development of the operation and thanked the emergency services for their active support.
