Warehouse fire at a metal recycling company

06.09.2024 – On 05.09.2024 at around 2.15 a.m., the Offenbach fire department was alerted to a warehouse fire at a metal recycling company on Mühlheimer Straße.

In the corner area of the approx. 1000 square meter warehouse, stored recycling material consisting of various household items was on fire with heavy smoke development. Fortunately, no people were endangered or injured.

Due to the weather, the smoke drifted upwards and did not spread into the inhabited area. Measurements by the Offenbach district measuring team confirmed the result. What remained was an unpleasant odor.

The fire department fought the fire together with the forces of the professional fire department and all three volunteer fire departments in two fire sections with approx. 80 firefighters. Other sections included the water supply and the staging area for other requested emergency services. Support was provided by the Frankfurt and Mühlheim fire departments. The DRK and ASB care teams were deployed to look after the emergency services. An excavator was used to spread the burning material so that it could be extinguished easily. The warehouse was severely damaged as a result of the fire and the very high heat development.

The scene was checked several times until the afternoon to extinguish further embers.

During the operation, Mühlheimer Straße was completely closed until around 6.30 am.
