28.10.2024 – Respect and recognition are due to a 60-year-old man from Frankfurt who selflessly showed civil courage this morning and saved a lady's life.

At around 09:53, he made an emergency call and initiated the rescue chain in exemplary fashion, then selflessly jumped into the cold harbor basin without hesitation to save the drowning lady!

At around 09:53, the Offenbach control center received a report that a person had fallen into the water in the harbour basin near the "blue crane". In accordance with the alarm plan, the water rescue train of the Offenbach professional fire department, the Frankfurt professional fire department, the lifeboat of the Rumpenheim volunteer fire department, two ambulances and an emergency ambulance were alerted immediately.

When the emergency services arrived, they found two people securing themselves to a boat in the water. Previously, one person had fallen into the water for unknown reasons, and a 60-year-old man from Frankfurt who was passing by first alerted the fire department by calling "112". He then stripped down to his underwear and jumped into the cold harbor basin to rescue the drowning person. The rescuer succeeded and was able to secure the person to a boat moored to the harbor wall.

The person was then rescued from the harbor basin by the fire and rescue services using a spineboard. After initial emergency medical treatment, the person was taken to a hospital in Offenbach with severe hypothermia.

The rescuer himself remained uninjured, which is not a matter of course due to the cool water temperatures.
