Water rescue operation on the Bieber (stream)
14.08.2024 – Dramatic scenes took place on 14.08.2024 at 09:59 in the small Bieber (stream) in the Bieber district. Two women were walking their dog in the Obermühle area.
The dog ran into the stream at the level of an inn, where the water level had risen due to the heavy rainfall the previous night and the current was fast by the dog's standards. The four-legged friend was unable to save himself from the stream to the dry bank, so one of the women followed him into the Bieberbach. The woman was also unable to get to the bank on her own, so the second woman also climbed into the stream.
When both women realized their predicament, they called 112 and alerted the emergency services. Even before the fire and rescue services arrived, at least one of the two women was pulled ashore thanks to the courageous intervention of a passer-by.
As the banks of the stream were heavily overgrown with bushes and shrubs on both sides, the woman and her dog, who were still in the water, were unable to rescue themselves, so the fire department first had to cut a path to the stream using a chainsaw. The woman and the dog were then rescued from the stream by the Offenbach fire department.
Both women were handed over to the emergency services. The dog is in good health.
