Fire in the changing rooms of the Edith Stein School

04.12.2025 – At 12:01 a.m., a fire was reported to the Offenbach fire department control center in the changing area of the Edith-Stein-Schule gymnasium.

On arrival at the scene, the fire department's platoon leader found the roof of the changing room already burnt through, with flames already clearly visible as well as smoke.
As soon as the fire brigade arrived, the alarm was immediately raised to reflect the situation in order to ensure the necessary number of resources and personnel were available. The gymnasium and changing area had already been evacuated at this point, so there was no danger to the pupils or teaching staff.

Thanks to the rapid deployment of two emergency crews wearing breathing apparatus, the source of the fire in the completely smoke-filled part of the building was quickly located and extinguished. At 12:28 p.m., the emergency services reported "fire under control" and at 1:01 p.m. "fire out".

However, extensive and time-consuming ventilation measures were still necessary due to the smoke ingress from the attached changing room area into the large gymnasium. These were carried out using the existing ventilation system and several mechanical fans from the fire department.
The Offenbach fire brigade was supported on site by another fire department from Frankfurt.

An accompanying student was slightly injured, but could be released after outpatient treatment in an ambulance of the fire department on site.

During this operation, the basic protection for the city area was temporarily ensured with forces from the three volunteer fire departments of the city of Offenbach.

The operation ended at 15:10.
