Violence is not an option

No violence against emergency services

Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Bremen and Offenbach am Main:

"There were relatively few attacks on emergency services on New Year's Eve - but every firework attack, every injury and every insult is one too many!" explains Hartmut Ziebs, President of the German Firefighters' Association (DFV). The association recorded reports of violent attacks after the turn of the year. "It is important that we continue our campaign 'Gewalt geht gar nicht' (Violence is not an option) so that it reaches a deeper level everywhere," said the President. Ziebs calls on society, in particular politicians, the judiciary, the public and the media, to face up to their responsibilities and protect emergency services from violence: "We need more respect for emergency services, awareness-raising among the public, better communication of values and appreciation as well as consistent prosecution. Above all, affected firefighters must not be abandoned!" These are also the key points of the resolution "Our emergency services - our safety! No to violence against firefighters", which was adopted last year by the DFV Delegates' Assembly.
