Behavior during storms
Squalls: Thunderstorms are threatening in large parts of Germany. Four tips on the right behavior.
- Watch out for approaching storms during outdoor activities. Information can also be provided by warning apps for cell phones such as NINA or HESSENWARN.
- A solid building is the safest place to be in a storm. Alternatively, a closed vehicle also offers protection.
- Wait out storms with gales and hail on the road in a parking lot or on the side of the road on a tree-free section.
- Report accidents and fires immediately by calling the Europe-wide emergency number 112. Please keep the emergency lines free for emergencies during a storm and only report damage that does not pose an acute danger after the storm has passed.
In Germany, one million men and women are active in the fire departments - more than 99 percent of them on a voluntary basis. "Only thanks to the extensive network of fire departments is it possible to provide rapid assistance even in large-scale operations such as storms," explains the DFV President. As part of supra-local assistance, fire departments from different locations in a damage area can also be deployed if necessary.
