Professional fire department
According to the Hessian law on fire protection, general assistance and disaster control (HBKG), cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants must have professional fire departments. This is also the case in Offenbach. And so the professional fire department provides basic protection for the city of Offenbach am Main around the clock, 365 days a year.
Basic protection means that a certain minimum number of emergency personnel is kept available to deal with the usual incidents by manning the appropriate vehicles. For this purpose, an operational strength of 22 emergency services officers is always maintained. These are supplemented by the operational readiness of the volunteer fire departments.
At least two employees from the watch groups always work as dispatchers in the City of Offenbach's radio control center. In addition, there are always two managers working as the operations control service and the management service, who are on call outside of their daily duties and are alerted in special situations.
The emergency service is carried out by three watch groups in a 24-hour service. The employees on duty in the watch groups then staff the various functions of the emergency service so that the emergency vehicles and special vehicles initially required can be deployed depending on the reported incident.
