Training for the intermediate fire department

During a one and a half year training period, you will be prepared for the career examination for the middle fire department. During this time, you must successfully pass numerous courses and examinations. The training is divided into the following three sections:

Training for the intermediate fire department begins on April 1 of each year. They are prepared for the career test in three training phases.

Section I - Basic firefighting course
The basic firefighting and tactical training for the intermediate firefighting service lasts 24 weeks.

Section II - Internship 1
In Section II (lasting 27 weeks), they are deployed as a squad member under supervision. A particular focus during this time is training to become a paramedic.

Section III - Internship 2 and career test
This is followed in a further 27 weeks by practical training 2 at the fire station. As a squad leader under supervision, you will consolidate what you have learned and take part in training for the CE driving license category.

The career examination at the Hessian State Fire Service School in Kassel marks the end of training for the intermediate fire department.
