Exposure Meter 1, the new biennial of contemporary art on the Main, opens for the first time this spring with the exhibition theme: Symbiosis. And at two locations in the Rhine-Main region: on April 27, 2024 in the city of Flörsheim am Main in the municipal gallery Kunstforum Mainturm and on April 28, 2024 in the city of Offenbach am Main in the Museum Haus der Stadtgeschichte. The Biennale am Main will run until June 23, 2024, setting a new accent in the art landscape of the Rhine-Main-Taunus region. It brings together protagonists from the region with other artists from Germany and Europe as well as several exhibition venues. Fourteen artists from various genres such as installation, sculpture, painting, printmaking and photography are expected to take part. The event is organized by the city of Flörsheim am Main in cooperation with the city of Offenbach and the Haus der Stadtgeschichte.
The Flörsheim Kunstforum am Mainturm, Dr.-Georg-von-Opel-Anlage 2, is showing nine positions. From France come works by ceramic artist Sandrine Bringard, whose objects with surprising perspectives on the human body and interpretations of water act with grace. Also from France, a composition of selected objects by Konrad Loder demonstrates the successful symbiosis of an artist and his studio. Following the principle of cradle to cradle, not a single scrap is left over in the creation process of Loder's multifaceted works. The exciting sculptures made of stone, metal and wood by Claudia Pense come from Kelkheim. She is the first artist ever to use the historic Main Tower in the outdoor area. Dafi Kühne is an internationally renowned letterpress artist. His posters convey a socially critical and poetic approach and, as products of pop culture, play with the viewer's viewing habits. Susanne Schirdewahn from Berlin takes us on a journey into the symbiotic world of plants and complements an intoxicating scenery of painting and object with her head births from memorabilia. In contrast, the objects by Belgian Johan Gelper are unusually cool and elegant. He packs his interpretations of botany and the earth's spiral in hard steel and complementary materials into sculptures that nevertheless appear as light as a breath of air. Poppy Luley, the English-born ceramic artist from Trebur, designs a baroque play landscape whose strict chess moves are mixed up by means of a swing. Young Wha Song lives in Schwalbach, but allows her cultural Korean roots to influence her work and crochets the "Main, drawn in Flörsheim" on the wall of the gallery like a Zen brush gesture. Finally, Jo Albert from Frankfurt am Main, whose photographs of "consumer shamans" evoke the symbiosis of man and plastic in a serial variety that is as tongue-in-cheek as it is desperate. On six levels, curator Andrea Simon and her artists stage fields of artistic experience that also incorporate the sub-theme of the Biennale, the landscape.
Curator Katja M. Schneider is showing five artistic positions at Offenbach's Haus der Stadtgeschichte, Herrnstraße 61. Michelle Concepción, who comes from Puerto Rico and lives in Offenbach, generates mysterious sketches of the early stages of life in her paintings, which shimmer into the room. Sabine Große from Kaufungen uses the rubber printing process to create patterns of plant and human forms as a cartography of a search for traces. Offenbach-based artist Friederike Caroline Bachmann also sets her playful installations in the homosphere, revolving around breath and growth. John Audun Hauge travels from Norway and conveys his idea of the connection between man and the sea through his boat objects - on a long journey filled with thoughts. Photo artist Corinna Rosteck from Berlin celebrates the apparent dissolution of bodies in water. She develops translucent photographic signs of highly dynamic movements of dancers in the liquid element.
A catalog will be published, which is available at both venues. Artist talks, guided tours and other program items frame the new art festival Belichtungsmesser 1, which also has its own website: www.biennaleammain.de Here you can find opening times, directions, artist information, the event program and much more information
