48 Burkas - A German portrait of morals

An exhibition by Hagen Bonifer
Vernissage on April 22, 2018 at 3 pm
Exhibition period: April 22 - May 27, 2018

The artist and stage designer Hagen Bonifer creates time-critical spatial installations that are thought-provoking. This one is no exception:

"48 burkas - a German portrait of morals". The burkas that Hagen Bonifer has created represent curtain patterns with which German living rooms generally seal themselves off from the outside world. And why 48? Wasn't there something? 1848? Oh yes, the failed German revolution, which was followed at some point by the First World War: 1914/18. The war ended almost a hundred years ago, but history weighs heavily, is as confused as the patterns on Hagen Bonifer's curtains, no, burkas, which brings us to the German discussions of the present.

Hagen Bonifer says: "If the wall openings on buildings can be seen as their eyes, as part of a fragile, complex physiognomy, then my curtains are the veiled face of their inhabitants."
