Karl May is the most famous German western writer of the 19th century. Born in Ernstthal in Saxony in 1842 and died in Radebeul in Saxony in 1912, 2017 marks the 175th anniversary of his birth. Every child knows his characters "Winnetou" and "Old Shatterhand".
The House of City History's Graphic Collection contains the estate of Klaus Dill (1922-2000), the most important German Western illustrator, who illustrated countless scenes from Karl May's works. Selected sheets from this collection are presented with interesting loans from national Karl May collections.
