Kurt Steinel (1928-2005), former rector and professor at the Offenbach University of Art and Design, had a decisive influence on Offenbach's artistic and cultural life during his time, both as an artist and as a teacher. He made his mark with book illustrations and expressive depictions of people and, since the 1980s, also with landscapes. He loved abstraction, which he perfected in his late work from the 1990s onwards.
He moved effortlessly between the graphic techniques of ink drawing, pencil drawing and etching, but also knew how to use watercolor and pastel chalk. The memorial exhibition is the first retrospective of the artist's work.
