The double exhibition JUXTAPOSITION shows site-specific works by Merja Herzog-Hellstén and prints by Volker Steinbacher.
In their juxtaposition, they explore similarities, differences and references in the two-dimensional as well as in the spatial and spatial-related. In the same way that Herzog-Hellsten's works are inhabited by tendencies of the two-dimensional, Steinbacher's prints cross the threshold into the spatial.
Between the pillars of the industrial hall in the Haus der Stadtgeschichte, Merja Herzog-Hellstén places her installation underline, consisting of spatial characters and pureed text masses, among other things.
Volker Steinbacher has been developing new printing processes in the field of etching for years. The exhibited works are mostly combinations of relief and intaglio printing, embossing and so-called carborundum printing. The structures and forms originate from the initiated material events, the coagulation and precipitation processes and acid corrosion.
In addition to their independent artistic work, Volker Steinbacher (1957, Neu-Isenburg) and Merja Herzog-Hellstén (1969, Finland) teach at the Offenbach University of Art and Design.
With the kind support of the Cultural Foundation of the Städtische Sparkasse Offenbach am Main and the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art.
