Mathias Weis (born 1955) paints figuratively, in larger conceptual series. The exhibition "Nestbau - Mobilien / Offenbacher Version" is about homes on the outskirts of cities and urban life. He focuses on architecture in the so-called "bacon belt" of cities. First with the camera, then with the paintbrush, he captures what he sees. In doing so, Weis reproduces a seemingly desperate search for individuality, which is, however, an illusion given the similarity of these settlements. In this way, a panopticon of self-realization on the part of the builder emerges, regulated by the norms of building law. Everyone has seen these houses and yet not seen them. Everyone and no one is at home here. Mathias Weis studied painting and philosophy in Kassel.
The exhibition is complemented by doll's houses from the past 250 years. The centerpiece is the large doll's house from 1757 belonging to the D'Orville family on the first floor of the museum.
