"We see it as our duty to help the freelancers in Offenbach and to support them wherever we can." The words of Lord Mayor and Head of Cultural Affairs Dr. Felix Schwenke from the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting closures are now being followed by action at the Haus der Stadtgeschichte: Because the 150-square-metre industrial hall with changing exhibitions is also empty until further notice, Katja M. Schneider, curator of the house, and Sabine-Lydia Schmidt from the Office for Sports and Cultural Management have come up with a pop-up store. The third member of the team is Offenbach artist Anja Hantelmann, who has regularly organized the Superladen in the run-up to Christmas for many years. Hence the name Super Corona Pop-Up Art Store. And because the aim these days is to strengthen artists affected by the corona crisis in particular, the "Super Corona Popup Artstore" will open its doors on July 1.
"Artists and creative people don't live on air and love," explains Schneider, "which is why we get them out of their studios and give them the opportunity to show themselves and their work here. And, if possible, to sell it too." There will be art for all budgets, and it is important to the organizers to use the exhibition to alleviate the existential needs of Offenbach's artists. "We know of quite a few who had planned exhibitions and now can't find an audience," adds Schmidt. In addition to the exhibition in the hall, the three ladies are planning an online gallery with the works, which will then also be posted on social media channels in order to find as many buyers and interested parties as possible.
The vernissage will also be special. Visitors can choose times between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on July 1, 2020. If it threatens to get too crowded at one time, we will contact you and suggest an alternative. Click here to register:
