"I'm not looking for the perfect picture. I want life in the moment, the situation as an intense illustration," says artist Sigrid Ortwein. What could be better suited to this than a Polaroid, those charming, originally square photographs from clunky devices at the interface to today's familiar, instantly available image. Suddenly there are technical and human unknowns in the equation, and the result of her photography is once again a random moment. Somewhere in between, Sigrid Ortwein moves with her passion for typography, pictography, sign language, all kinds of coding and information systems, always in search of the optimal combination of word and image. The graphic designer, who runs the agency "Caepsele visuelle Strategien" in Offenbach with her partner S.J. Swierczyna and is active in the DDC German Designer Club, among others, received her training from poster artist Gunter Rambow.
The moods in Sigrid Ortwein's pictures are close, lively, palpable, tangible, creating the feeling of a party community of cheerfulness, closely connected by facial expressions and gestures, in which everyone knows everyone else. You will either recognize many familiar faces in the portraits or get to know the cheerful, happy, celebrating, laughing people when you look at the pictures in the exhibition. These people live their self-determined lives, realize themselves, have enlightened, strong opinions, appear open, direct, approachable, communicative, vocal.
At the Haus der Stadtgeschichte, she is showing the results of her forays over the past three years and a hodgepodge from her archive - a tiny slice of her life's work "Make yourself a picture of the picture of the picture": a place of encounter and exchange that visitors can help shape. Censorship included.
