Un/visible GENERATIONS

What is racism? What is the history of racism in our society? What does racism mean for people who are affected by it and for us as a society?
These questions are the focus of the special exhibition Un/visible- GENERATIONS.

The exhibition can be seen from March 9, 2025 to June 22, 2025.

i ain't from no east coast

A topic that is moving and thought-provoking.

The special exhibition in the Haus der Stadtgeschichte, a historic building, a former snuff factory, approaches the topic of racism from different angles.

There will be various themed islands that shed light on the close links between history, society and the economy - from colonial history, identities and places of remembrance to collective commemoration. Un/sichtbar-GENERATIONEN invites visitors to look, listen, reflect and also give hope.

In addition to historical objects from the collection of the museum and city archives, the exhibition also shows artistic positions that were created in workshops with the Offenbach Children's Youth Parliament (KJP). In addition, three artists from Offenbach, Berlin and Oslo have been invited to show their work as part of the special exhibition.

In the museum's well-known industrial hall, the focus is on the topic of memories: What do we remember? Who do we remember? Which memories have a place in the collective memory?

These complex questions are complemented by the artistic works and installations of the artists Maryam Abtahi, Sara Nabil and Verdiana Albano by Rajya Karumanchi-Dörsam (on loan from the DOMID Archive Cologne).

The first floor of the museum tells of the historical and contemporary intertwining of racism and, above all, poses the question: What is racism?

Visitors can record their thoughts and ideas at interactive stations and listen to video contributions from people from Offenbach and the surrounding area, including the guest contribution from the podcasters (un)deutsch. Because the topic can trigger many different feelings, there will be opportunities for a place of retreat.
