Unknown artist: View of Offenbach
"View of Offenbach, down the Main"
Oil on sheet metal, 42 x 61 cm, unsigned, around 1830, originally a serving tray, August Hecht Collection
The painting, which was originally a serving board, does not show a topographically correct view of the town, as the Main seems to end in the foreground, but in reality it naturally flows further towards Hanau. The Isenburg Castle and a church tower can be seen on the left. In the foreground are two men talking with a dog, while a sailing ship sails on the Main.
