The comic - a boundless space full of narrative possibilities

Comics are far more than just stories drawn on paper. They create fascinating narrative worlds and offer a space full of creative possibilities. Figures and landscapes emerged from the pages of books early on and can be experienced as three-dimensional objects. Increasingly, artists are extending the comic into space - through installations, sculptures and walk-in objects. The Klingspor Museum presents a diverse selection of works that impressively illustrate how comics can grow beyond the classic book format. Thirteen contemporary comic artists bring their drawn stories into the exhibition space and allow them to be experienced in a variety of ways - through large-scale illustrations, ceramic and textile figures, walk-in objects and sound installations. In addition to the three-dimensional works, original drawings, sketches and a selection of current comics will also be on display.

The exhibition invites visitors to immerse themselves in the multi-layered genre of comics - boundless, expansive and full of narrative possibilities.

Accompanying program in July

Friday, July 18, 6 p.m., Buchbar, guided tour with curator Tatjana Prenzel through the exhibition "Von der Seite in den Raum. Boundlessness in contemporary comics". Thirteen contemporary comic artists show how their drawn stories can be experienced outside the book. Because bringing the stories from the page into the room is an added value that comic exhibitions can offer. The works on display go beyond the classic book format in different ways. The drawings are extended into the space by three-dimensional objects, expansive installations and sound, because the diverse genre of comics sets itself no limits. Not in the choice of technique, form or content. In addition to three-dimensional works, original drawings and a selection of contemporary comics are on display. 2 € tour fee. Cool drinks are available at the book bar.

Monday, July 21 - Friday, July 25, 10 am - 1 pm, paper and felt. Vacation games for children aged 8 and over. Every day you are surrounded by papers and fabrics. Some are leafed through or written on, others are worn on the body as clothing. But how are paper and fabrics actually made? What do they have to do with each other? And what other functions can they have apart from the ones we are familiar with? During this vacation week, participants will combine paper and felt under the guidance of museum educators Monika Jäger and Paula Schulenburg and create an artistic installation for the educational area of the Klingspor Museum. Three-dimensional objects will be created from paper and felt that will grow into the space. Paper is made from recycled products, surfaces are scooped and felted and joined together to form shapes. The kids will take small objects home with them, while the large spatial installation will remain permanently visible in the museum. With binding registration at klingspormuseumoffenbachde 069-8065 2164. Costs 50 euros

Sunday, July 27, 3 - 5 p.m., felting shapes and figures. Workshop for children aged 8 and over and adults. Small figures will be felted for the final opening of the comic exhibition, which also make wonderful key rings. With Monika Jäger and Paula Schulenburg. With binding registration at klingspormuseumoffenbachde 069-8065 2164. Costs 30 euros
