Artistic intention
I am interested in motifs that trigger their own stories in the mind of the viewer. This is often prompted by vague thoughts that accompany me for a while and develop into motif ideas over time. The actual motifs are then created using photographs and videos, most of which I stage myself. I create irritations through the choice of detail, the use of emptiness or image resolutions. The image is automatically supplemented and invites the viewer to develop their own stories and associations. The use of egg tempera and painting in many layers of color gives me the opportunity to make moods perceptible through fine nuances of color that support my motif ideas.
I like to deal with subjects that are difficult to grasp and that I first have to let pass through me.
As a painter, I am always fascinated by light situations and how the smallest nuances of color can change a mood in a picture. I like to work with materials, especially those that change shape quickly: Water in motion; bedding that can change either by being shaken up or by a different incidence of light.
In recent years I have often created cycles. Since 1996, for example, I have created series on the themes of dream/sleep/death, doing nothing, in the lake, carousel and home, but always accompanied by individual works.
