Cult of immediacy - authoritarian leaders and regimes

Authoritarian leaders and regimes grind down, as far as possible, the constitutional form of rule of distance from the interests and passions of the street.

Their aim is to control the forums for public conflict and to stage them according to their script. The authoritarian personnel pursue the plan of bringing charisma and propaganda to bear directly - in words, images and in other ways - by bypassing parliaments and parties, courts and the media.

Direct communication in the illusory community of "leaders" and "led" is a conspicuous hallmark not only of fascist regimes, but also of those that are considered populist.
