Presentations of the German Weather Service

Free admission

Everyone is talking about the weather. We do too.

Our free lectures will turn you into weather experts! The German Weather Service will tell you all about the shapes of clouds, the pitfalls of pollen flight, the powerful energy of thunderstorms and the destructive beauty of tornadoes.

Clouds: heralds of the weather - 14.4., 7 p.m.

What can clouds tell us? What can we deduce from their appearance, structure and behavior? Can they really predict the weather and tell us something? What is the difference between dry and wet fleecy clouds? Can dark mammatus clouds also deceive us and mislead us into wrong behavior?

Rüdiger Manig (62) was a weather observer and head of the Neuhaus am Rennweg weather station from 1987 to 2015. Almost thirty years in which he was able to gather a lot of experience and answers to these and many other questions. Since 2016, he has been building up an image database for the German Weather Service, which naturally includes many of his cloud photos. And he has a lot to say about them.

Further dates for lectures by the German Weather Service will follow.

Admission free.
