"Design for Democracy": SCAPE° represented as an innovation project in new exhibition at the Museum Angewandte Kunst
02.06.2026
On the occasion of the "World Design Capital 2026", the Museum Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt is dedicating an exhibition to design characterized by responsibility entitled "Design for Democracy. What design can achieve!". A total of 25 innovative projects from the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region, selected by the curators especially for this exhibition, will be presented. A multifaceted tour invites visitors to explore the relationship between design and democracy and to discover new perspectives on co-creation, the common good and the impact of good design.
One of the 25 projects presented in the exhibition is SCAPE°. In the interactive exhibition and experience space in Offenbach, the connections between weather, climate and sustainability are vividly presented for all ages via hands-on stations. The SCAPE° is an inviting place that enables participation. The exhibition and events inspire self-efficacy and encourage us to work together on our future. SCAPE° shows how design can be understood as a process: as a conscious examination of our environment and as a joint development of answers to the social and ecological challenges of our time. Because the future is not created in the abstract, but through joint action.
The exhibition "Design for Democracy. What design can achieve!" can be seen at the Museum of Applied Arts in Frankfurt until June 28, 2026.

About SCAPE°
"SCAPE° - Weather. Climate. Mensch." is an interactive exhibition and experience space in Offenbach's city center. The exhibition, events and workshops link the topics of weather, climate and culture, provide valuable impetus for climate and environmentally conscious city life and bring people together. SCAPE° is also present with activities in the urban environment. SCAPE° is one of 16 projects from the "City Center Future Concept" and thus also an important player in the revitalization of Offenbach's city center. It is being implemented by the German Weather Service (DWD) and the City of Offenbach's offices for cultural management, city management/business development and environment and climate.
More information on the future concept for the city center
German city centers are undergoing radical change as a result of the decline in retail trade. Against this backdrop, the city of Offenbach developed a future concept for the city center back in 2020 together with the people of Offenbach, the Offenbach offensiv association, which is close to the Offenbach Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the planners from urbanista - a concept that now comprises 16 projects. The aim, as Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke emphasizes, is to strengthen the remaining retail sector and enable new trade. However, because it will no longer be like it used to be, completely new reasons to come to the city center are also to be created. The 16 projects in the city center future concept are therefore deliberately different offerings in order to maintain the heart of the city as an inviting and lively place. More than half of the projects are already being implemented. The city of Offenbach is working hard to shape change - together with numerous inner-city and external stakeholders. Together, we want to make the city center lovable.
