Reading promotion on 4 paws

Bonny the dog loves to be read stories and would love to accompany your child on the path to reading enthusiasm!

Registration and participation

Our library dog Bonny loves to be read stories and would like to accompany your child on the path to reading enthusiasm!

The project takes place in cooperation with the Erich Kästner School, which selects the children to take part in the reading promotion project.

What we offer you

Bonny is the perfect listener because her presence has a calming effect and helps your child to

- reduce reading inhibitions
- gain security and self-confidence
- Discover the joy and fun of reading

Your child reads Bonny a selected story tailored to his or her abilities. Mrs. Rosenau accompanies the child in the reading process and supports the correct handling of the dog.

As parents, you are welcome to attend your child's first reading appointment. The following dates will take place without parents.
An appointment with Bonny is not an alternative to speech therapy, occupational therapy or psychological support. If you, your child's teacher or caregivers think your child needs these, please contact your pediatrician.

Bonny on the wheel of fortune

Reading promotion on four paws - what is it?

Numerous research results have shown that the presence of a calm dog can reduce blood pressure and heart rate in humans, especially in stressful situations. The aim of the library education program is to support children of primary school age with the help of Bonny, both with reading problems in general and especially when reading aloud. The presence of the dog has a calming effect on the children and helps them to overcome reading inhibitions, gain security and self-confidence and discover the fun of reading. In recent years, dog-assisted reading promotion has already achieved many successes and the participating pupils and their parents and teachers have reported many wonderful experiences and developments, particularly in the emotional area.

In the "Reading promotion on 4 paws" program, both the active use of the dog and the simultaneous connection to the library are very important, and this is also reflected in events in which Bonny is also involved. In addition to literature that builds on each other, the program also includes subsequent, in-depth games with the dog.
