Once again this year, several Offenbach schools took part in the City Library's "Mainbuchcast" podcast competition. For the fourth time, pupils were invited to translate literature into acoustic formats - using very different stylistic devices and concepts.

"After the great feedback in previous years, it was clear to us that we would continue the competition," said Nicole Köster, Head of the City Library. She thanked the supporting publishers dtv, Beltz, Loewe and magellan, who provided all participating classes with the required books in class set quantities.

Five podcast episodes were submitted, three of which were recently honored at the award ceremony in the Büsingpalais public library.

First prize - the silver microphone worth 500 euros - went to class 8c from the Ernst Reuter School for their creative interpretation of Gottfried Keller's "Clothes make the man". The project impressed with its contemporary interpretation of the classic. The class plans to donate part of the prize money.

Second place and prize money of 300 euros went to class 9a from Leibnizschule for their podcast on "Genesis rebooted", which deals with artificial intelligence and its consequences. The third prize (200 euros) was won by class 9c from the Albert Schweitzer School with an exciting audio version of "Awakened".

Author Ida Todisco hosted the program. Together with Nicole Köster and the previous year's winners from the Albert Schweitzer School, she formed the jury and listened carefully to all the entries.

Before the winners were announced, Todisco spoke to the participating classes about their working methods. Many worked in groups and one class combined different subjects. "We couldn't have done it in four weeks without interdisciplinary work," reported teacher Norma Brehm from the Ernst Reuter School.

All award-winning entries and other submissions are available on Spotify under the title MainBuchcast - as are the podcasts from the previous year.
