    The fall semester starts

The annual motto "Future Skills - Competencies for tomorrow" is entering its second round - the new semester starts on September 1, 2025

The program booklets are available in the usual places and the first courses are already fully booked. So it's time to take a look in the booklet or here on the website and find out about our courses and events in the fall and book right away. The varied program in the areas of health, languages, culture & creativity, career & multimedia, society & life has something for everyone in Offenbach.

Future Skills, new future-oriented skills, are also once again the focus of the program. In this day and age of digitalization, automation and the advance of artificial intelligence, they are becoming increasingly important. Employees need to rethink employment. In addition to technical skills, social intelligence, creativity and critical thinking are more important today than ever before. But we also need to learn more outside of our professional lives, which means that lifelong learning, personal responsibility and the ability to learn in a self-directed way are becoming increasingly important. Understanding and skills for our future can be developed in the best possible way at our adult education center. Through practice-oriented courses in the areas of digital competence, creativity and innovation, soft skills/social intelligence or self-management, the vhs makes you fit for the world of tomorrow.

We look forward to receiving your registrations - online, by phone on 069 8065-3141 or by e-mail to vhs@offenbach.de

  • Our paths through the world of learning - World Literacy Day 2025 at the vhs Offenbach

On the occasion of World Literacy Day, the Volkshochschule Offenbach invites you to the event "Our paths through the world of learning" on September 8, 2025, at 4 pm. On this day, we are focusing on the people in Offenbach who need support in the area of basic education - and at the same time giving a voice to those who have already taken their first steps at the vhs basic education center.

Basic education forms the foundation for participation and promotes social cohesion. It encompasses far more than just reading and writing. It also includes basic numeracy skills, confident use of digital technologies and social skills. According to the study "LEO 2018 - Living with low literacy", there are around 6.2 million adults between the ages of 18 and 64 in Germany who can only read and write to a limited extent. In Offenbach, this corresponds to more than 10,000 people affected.

The event "Our paths through the world of learning" begins with a welcome address by City Councillor and Head of Education Paul-Gerhard Weiß. Afterwards, the focus will be on learners and their individual experiences in basic education. There will be a varied program on the different courses offered by the Offenbach Basic Education Centre. The guests themselves will come into contact with the reading walk, articles in simple language or the reading and writing course and can experience what makes up the everyday learning life of the participants.

All interested parties are cordially invited to take part in the event.

The Offenbach Basic Education Center is aimed at adults who want to improve their reading, writing or arithmetic skills. Digital skills and health education are also part of the free offer. The courses are funded by the European Social Fund and the state of Hesse as part of a temporary project.

Further information and all course offers can be found at www.of-gbz.de or directly from Cat* Patiño Lang, cat.patinolang@offenbach.de, Tel: 069 8065-3632.

You can find the complete program as well as the possibility to register by clicking on the picture or the headline.

  • The Start project celebrates its 30th anniversary

The Start Projekt production school has been operating in Offenbach since 1995. In September 2019, it was organizationally relocated to the Offenbach Adult Education Centre. An anniversary like this needs to be celebrated. The vhs thought so too and invited numerous representatives of the city, long-standing partners and supporters, former employees and colleagues from other offices and organizations to a festive ceremony on 17 June 2025. The 30-year-old start project was honored and recognized in numerous speeches and panel discussions.

Last but not least, there was a new, modern, young logo for the Start Project. This new brand logo is called "Go!" and is intended as a call to action in the sense of: Take your life into your own hands! Take your second chance! Now!

To mark the anniversary year, the vhs has also published a commemorative publication. Here we review the last 30 years, give a voice to active and past employees and young people, report on the beginnings up to the present day, show success stories in statistics, tell anecdotes and much more. Take a look inside.
