Basic cleaning in the school buildings: osmosis device ensures a clear view

23.08.2024 – When the pupils at the city's 30 schools are on vacation, Stadtwerke Offenbach's GBM Service GmbH takes the opportunity to give the empty buildings a thorough clean. GBM is responsible for the structural, technical, infrastructural and commercial building management of the city's properties, including the schools and daycare centers. In total, around 20,000 square meters of floor in all schools are thoroughly cleaned and treated every year. In addition, 50,000 square meters of glass surfaces are cleaned, mainly windows including the frames, so that children and young people as well as the teaching staff feel comfortable in the school buildings again.

The osmosis device was used to clean the upper windows on the side of the harbor school that was difficult to reach with a lift truck.

20 Offenbach schools have now been thoroughly cleaned during the summer vacation. Special planning was required for the higher glass surfaces. Windows that can be reached and opened from the classroom are easy to clean. For the others, ladders, scaffolding and pallet trucks have to be used so that the cleaners can remove the dirt. An osmosis device can also be used in places that are difficult to access. This was used, for example, for the glass surfaces at the harbor school. The osmosis device is attached to a very long pole to which a water hose is connected. It is operated by the window cleaners from the ground, so that work safety is much higher than if, for example, a ladder has to be used.

The osmosis device can remove minerals from tap water. It is therefore completely pure when it is sprayed onto the window pane. Pure water absorbs dirt particularly well. Chemical cleaning agents do not need to be used, which is why this cleaning method is also environmentally friendly. The mineral-free drops leave no limescale stains on the windows, so there is no need to polish them afterwards. So if you can't see through the classrooms after the vacations - it's not because the windows have been cleaned with osmosis devices.
