A wooden house for the daycare center 3
23.08.2019 – Over a construction period of around one year, the city of Offenbach is replacing the old existing building of the Rödernstraße daycare center (3) with a larger new building in timber frame construction, thus creating more childcare places in the city center. Work began on Monday, August 26.
Construction work has begun on Rödernstrasse
Daycare center 3 at Rödernstraße 25 was built in 1963, extended in 1972 and 1974 and a second building section was added in 2006. The main building is structurally and technically outdated and is being demolished because renovation would be uneconomical. It will be replaced by a larger, two-storey new building in timber frame construction.
The project is being managed by the Office of Urban Planning, Transport and Construction Management. OPG Offenbacher Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH from the Stadtwerke Group has been commissioned with the project management and fiduciary handling.
By expanding the area, the city of Offenbach is meeting the increased demand for care in the city center. Currently, 150 children between the ages of three and six are cared for in six groups in Rödernstrasse. With the new building, Kita 3 will offer space for 175 children in seven groups.
City invests 6.3 million euros
The newer, single-storey part of the building will be retained in its structural form and use and will be connected to the new building without barriers and will be used by two groups during the construction phase. The other four groups will be cared for temporarily in modular buildings on the daycare site.
The construction work will initially begin with the removal and disposal of the firmly bonded asbestos-containing building materials such as roofing membranes and window sills, before demolition work is expected to begin in October. The pressurization of the building required for this work may lead to increased noise emissions. There may also be temporary restrictions to the parking situation in Rödernstraße.
On Monday, the building will be scaffolded and part of the site enclosure will be demolished. Sewer construction work will begin on Tuesday. The daycare center will also receive a new domestic sewage connection.
The city of Offenbach is investing 6.3 million euros in the construction project. Funding from the federal government's municipal investment program (KIP I) has been applied for.
