Architecture Day: GBO presents timber house
16.06.2017 – "Architecture creates quality of life" - this was the nationwide motto for Architecture Day 2017, which took place on June 24 and 25. The Stadtwerke Offenbach Group's Geschäftsfeld Immobilien also took part in the diverse program: GBO Gemeinnützige Baugesellschaft Offenbach mbH presented its timber house in Taunusstraße. The building, constructed in 2016, is the first 5-storey apartment building in solid timber construction in the Rhine-Main region.
Made from 70 percent renewable raw materials
The building was constructed from almost 70 percent renewable raw materials. The innovative new building offers 25 apartments with one to four rooms and has a modular design. All apartments are barrier-free and have a balcony. The use of prefabricated components enabled a very short construction time of nine months. The architectural concept that was implemented here was designed by Hirschmuellerschmidt Architektur GmbH from Darmstadt.
The apartment building was built as a hybrid house using solid wood construction - i.e. also with other materials - at a construction cost of three million euros. The innovative building represents a sensible alternative to conventional construction methods for the GBO, especially for the densification of living space in a district such as Nordend.
Three more construction projects open their doors
Three other construction projects in Offenbach also opened their doors on Architecture Day: the Senefelder Quartier on the former MAN site on Christian-Pless-Straße, the WasE - Wohnen am Spitzen Eck residential complex at the junction of Berliner Straße/Großer Biergrund 34-38 and a revitalized listed residential building at Wilhelmsplatz 16. 126 properties were open to visitors from Aarbergen to Wiesbaden throughout Hesse.
