New daycare center building: Hedge gives way to rainwater retention tank

07.02.2022 – In order to protect the sewer system from overloading in the event of frequent heavy rainfall events, the municipal utility company OPG will have an underground retention tank installed on the new daycare center (Kita 1) property at Friedensstraße 126 on behalf of the city's building construction management.

The 18-metre-long rainwater retention tank is intended to collect the rainwater on the nursery site and discharge it into the sewer system after a delay. Due to the limited space available, a few meters of the existing hornbeam hedge in the south of the building site will have to be cleared to install the tank. The work is to be carried out in February of this year during the vegetation rest period. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority and the City of Offenbach's Urban Green Department were closely involved in the development of this solution and have given their approval.

Once the building construction work has been completed, the hedge will be replanted in the same type and size on the cleared sections as part of the design of the outdoor facilities. The continuous hedge strip will then provide adequate protection from neighbors. OPG Offenbacher Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH is having a two-storey replacement building for the daycare center built on the former football pitch in Friedensstraße on behalf of the city. The new building is expected to be completed in spring 2023. This will increase the number of childcare places for children between the ages of three and six to 125.

The daycare center's old building, which no longer meets modern standards, is currently located on the grounds of the Lindenfeld Integrated Comprehensive School at Friedenstrasse 83. The building is to make way for the expansion of the IGS to include a primary school branch. The city of Offenbach is thus creating 200 new teaching places in the southern city center, which are urgently needed due to population growth.
