Demolition work at the IGS Lindenfeld
11.03.2022 – Preparatory work for the demolition of the former janitor's house on the grounds of the Lindenfeld Integrated Comprehensive School (IGS) in Friedensstraße began in mid-April. The actual demolition will take place in mid-May 2022 and will take around two weeks.
On behalf of the City of Offenbach, represented by the Office for Urban Planning, Transport and Construction Management, the municipal utility company OPG is having the former Bachschule and current IGS extended in two construction phases by 2027 to create a two-form entry elementary school with a canteen, as well as renewing the underground pipes and completely redesigning the schoolyard.
For the new school building, which will frame the historic main building of the IGS in a U-shape, the former janitor's house in the north-west will have to make way in the first construction phase and the daycare center building in the north-east of the site in the second construction phase, probably in the fourth quarter of 2024. In collaboration with the Office for the Environment, Energy and Climate Protection, the vacant janitor's house has been examined by a species conservation expert. The expert was unable to find any evidence of the presence of animals. However, as gaps in the wooden beams of the roof could potentially serve as roosts for bats, bat boxes have been attached to trees in the schoolyard as a substitute.
Offenbacher Projektewicklungsgesellschaft (OPG) has announced that parking spaces along Friedensstraße will be removed due to the construction work. Traffic routing will also change at the level of the comprehensive school. The demolition of the building will also affect the two service roads that run to the west and east of the school between Friedensstrasse and Landgrafenring and separate the school grounds from the gardens of the adjacent residential buildings. This will affect residents of Bachstrasse from April 2022 and Blücherstrasse from fall 2024.
During the demolition of the janitor's house, which will begin shortly, and also a section of the school's property wall, the western service road cannot be used for a few days. The path is owned by the town. It should remain usable for the residential neighborhood. For the duration of the entire construction work, the path will be secured by a construction fence over a length of around 20 meters in the first construction phase.
