New roof for the Erich Kästner School
The beams are old and in need of renovation and there are leaks in some places: The roof of the Erich Kästner School has been provisionally repaired time and again, but now it is due for complete renovation. The work has been commissioned by GBM Service GmbH, a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Offenbach's real estate division.
The school building dates back to 1884 and is a listed building, which is why all work is coordinated with the higher and lower monument protection authorities. The cost of the roof renovation is around 1.2 million euros.
The work is being carried out in several stages in consultation with the school management. They will ensure that the classrooms under each section of work remain empty so that pupils are not disturbed while they are learning. Very loud work, which could also penetrate to the other floors, is scheduled by the municipal utility subsidiary GBM for times outside of lessons.
It will be a good year before the roof beams are renovated and the roof re-roofed. The work will start during the Easter vacations and the roof should be renewed by the end of May 2026, but will offer the same view in accordance with the requirements for listed buildings.
