A photovoltaic system is installed on the renovated roof

12.01.2024 – 52 new solar modules on the roof at Mittelseestraße 5a are now producing electricity that flows into Offenbach's power grid. The photovoltaic system is located on a roof belonging to the Stadtwerke subsidiary GBO Gemeinnützige Baugesellschaft mbH Offenbach.

The new solar modules are part of the photovoltaic offensive in which Stadtwerke, in close cooperation with GBO and its other subsidiaries GBM Service GmbH and OPG GmbH, aims to equip up to 45 municipal properties with solar systems by 2027. The system has a projected annual output of around 22 kilowatt peak.

Sustainable insulation with the highest fire protection class

The roof was also fitted with sustainable insulation made from pressure-resistant and waterproof foam glass, which is made from recycled used glass. "In addition to very good insulation quality, the material also meets the highest fire protection class," says Jürgen Rupp, Deputy Head of New Construction and Energy Refurbishment.

Installation of solar modules in the course of a repair

The roof of the building in Mittelseestraße was leaking and had to be repaired. "As we had to erect scaffolding for this anyway, we took the opportunity to have the photovoltaic system installed as well," says Ulrich Lembke, Head of New Construction and Energy Refurbishment at GBO. "We were able to save on the scaffolding that was also required for this." Stadtwerke Offenbach Holding SOH financed the PV system, while GBO was responsible for construction supervision.

With the system in Mittelseestraße, we have now already put ten systems into operation. We are thus contributing to the implementation of the city's climate concept. The climate-friendly energy source also makes the city less dependent on electricity prices in the long term.
