Old home, new world

Esprit and poetry in great tone poems

SO, APRIL 2, 2023
Prelude: 16:00
Start of concert: 17:00

Home and music are a special bond - and an extremely strong one. In the compositions from Antonín Dvořák's American period, this becomes more tangible than in few others. In its opening movement, the symphony "From the New World" conveys the anticipation of arriving in America - and in the stormy finale, it seems, the joy for and about home breaks through again. On the one hand, this original masterpiece reflects Dvořák's studies of original American music. On the other hand
on the other hand, it is deeply Bohemian - and the synthesis of the two 'felt' nations creates the unique esprit and the fantastic dynamics.

Edvard Grieg expresses his homeland in a different and also very personal way - the concert overture 'In Autumn' is a model piece for this. Heartfelt, down-to-earth music-making and Grieg's very own means of transforming the typically Norwegian into the symphonic work together. Added to this is the master's signature of the smaller
to create intense moods with simple means even in the larger form.
with simple means.

A personal friend of Edvard Grieg is buried under the trees of Rumpenheim Castle Park: Alexander Friedrich von Hessen, who was not only Landgrave of Hesse, but also a professional and internationally respected composer. Appreciated and praised by personalities from Johannes Brahms and Franz Liszt to Richard Strauss and Theodor Adorno, he composed numerous top-class works. One of his most important compositions is the Piano Concerto in E flat minor, which the outstanding Swiss pianist Esther Walker will help us to liberate from oblivion.
